The ticks are on the loose again. Although vaccination protects against TBE, it does not protect against Lyme disease. If a tick bites, it can transmit bacteria of the Borrelia burgdorferi species through its saliva. Erythema migrans - an expanding reddening of the skin around the bite site - is typical of the infectious disease. However, it does not always occur and can easily be overlooked - especially on the head or under the fur. Other initial symptoms such as muscle and joint pain and flu-like symptoms should be taken seriously. If treatment with antibiotics is not carried out immediately after the bite, the so-called Lyme arthritis can be delayed and affect the nerves and brain. It is also important to specifically remove the toxins caused by the bacteria.

    How to remove ticks correctly

To remove a tick properly, the body must not be squeezed during the procedure, as otherwise the tick will release its toxins into the involuntary blood donor under stress. A safe method is to grab the tick as close to the bite site as possible. Special tick tweezers are ideal and can also be stored in the freezer. The cold shock of touching the tick makes it even easier to remove it.
