Claus Porto: Handmade soaps with fine scents from Porto

Claus Porto's roots include its German founders and a beautiful, historic Portuguese city.

The liaison of these two European identities brought about the creation of a venerable beauty and fragrance house that celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2017. The label built its name on handcrafted soaps infused with delicate fragrances that draw on ingredients from Portugal's lush countryside. These products are imbued with the heart and soul of the artisan and are hand-wrapped in packaging illustrated with beautiful artwork. Each product shines with the influence of the house's vintage graphic designs, giving the feeling of being transported to the glamorous decadence of Belle Époque Europe.

And Claus Porto's factory is still installed in the hometown of Porto, where the soaps are made using mechanical, ancient methods. Claus Porto has preserved this heritage even in turbulent times. For more than 100 years and 4 generations, Claus Porto has maintained its authenticity and developed its expertise in perfumes and cosmetics as well as a handmade ethos. The house's archive also features an incredible portfolio of hand-made colorful labels and patterns, each conveying a unique personality. It all starts with the blending process, which is influenced by Claus Porto's decades of expertise, while the contemporary recipes are enriched with the finest ingredients. A repeated milling process ensures a smooth finish of the soaps and a longer-lasting perfume.

This is followed by the lamination stage, which ensures the soap's extensibility. In the extrusion stage, the remaining grains are smoothed into shape and the mass of ingredients is formed into a bar of soap. The soaps are then individually molded into different shapes and styles. Our production method has a strict and certified quality assurance process that covers all production steps from the selection of ingredients to the final packaging.

Claus Porto’s soaps are each hand-packaged in the house’s unique, vintage-inspired labels and are available at WELTAPOTHEKE.
