terms and information

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a phytocannabinoid with therapeutic properties for numerous diseases. In some experimental models, CBD has anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, antioxidant, anti-nausea, anxiolytic and antipsychotic effects. The neuroprotective potential of CBD, based on the combination of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, is of particular interest and is currently the subject of intensive preclinical research for many neurodegenerative diseases. The neuroprotective effect appears to be based on an indirect effect on the endocannabinoid system by prolonging the effects of CB stimulants without directly interacting with the receptors. It also shows a positive effect on serotonin levels.

Possible therapeutic approaches and effects are:

  • antiemetic: reduces nausea and vomiting
  • anticonvulsant: reduces seizure activity
  • antipsychotic: reduces psychotic disorders
  • anti-inflammatory: fights inflammatory diseases
  • antioxidant: protects against neurodegenerative diseases
  • anti-anxiety: helpful for anxiety disorders
