Hello school days.

With autumn, the seriousness of school life begins again. While the previous months were dominated by play, now full concentration is required. This change is not always easy for our little ones. We can help them by creating good conditions. For example, it is helpful to change the eating and sleeping rhythm to school mode in the last week of the holidays. With a warm breakfast, we then strengthen our children for the daily challenges. After all, the body and brain need energy to be productive. Carbohydrates are a popular source of energy, but we prefer to avoid the short-chain ones. Although sweet cereals and jam rolls taste good, they cause blood sugar to rise and fall quickly - and with it concentration. So-called complex carbohydrates are better.

Quiet, one thing at a time

Complex means that the molecular structure of these carbohydrates is long-chained. Unlike simple or short-chain carbohydrates, which go straight into the blood and cause a real "sugar rush" in the brain, the body needs more time to break down the long chains. This means we stay full for longer and blood sugar levels remain constant. Muesli or porridge therefore provide a solid basis for children's breakfast. While whole grains and pseudo-grains provide nutrients such as iron, protein and folic acid, pieces of fruit provide bright colors, vitamins and variety. The lunch box can be just as colorful. A sugar-free drink for breaks also helps maintain concentration. Incidentally, the best way to encourage this "ability to focus on just one thing" is to avoid multitasking. First run around outside for a while, then read aloud in peace or play a board game, this brings the brain to life. Also put the cell phone away, cuddle and take time to listen - that's just as good for us parents.
